Friday school update 2/8

We have completed another week of school. We all like the new curriculum! It is much more teacher involved than anything we have ever done. I really am enjoying the learning process. Bobby is really thriving, and wanting to do school now. Which is a vast improvement from the past.

English - We are finishing up the Rod and Staff 3rd grade grammar book. We have been really behind in grammar for some time, but we are moving pretty good now. We are doing about 5 lessons daily, we are doing them oral, really discussing them and making sure he knows the concepts before moving on.

History - We are doing more geography at he moment. We have learned about various kinds of maps, Political, Cultural, Weather maps ect... We have learned about lattitudes and longitudes. He is really doing very well. He has learned alot about maps-- making them and reading them.

Science - We are talking about fossils. We have talked about how they are formed, what they are. We made some molds out of playdoh dice and marbles. Today we talked about transporting and restoring fossils.

Math - We are doing a basic review of things we have learned in the past. I thought it would be all review but we have learned a few new things that I took for granted he knew. But since it is a new book we thought we should review just to be sure.

Bible - We are learning about good reading habits, and good ways to study the Bible. Today he had to do a math problem using the information about Noah and his flood. He had to look up a reference and get the info like how old was Noah, How many cubits long, ect..... There were several references in Genesis for him to look out. After he did the math problem he had to use the answer to decode a promise from God.

A typical day Bobby picks the order we do the subjects. He has 5 to choose from. We sit at the table, I start the day with a prayer. I then take the girls aside and do a devo with them. I have this wonderful book I found "Blessings Everyday for the Very Young". The girls really like the time, we read the devo then we talk about it. After that the girls are released for individual play in the preschool center. They get to pick an activity; bags, puzzles, colors, ect. They each get one, they must clean up the activity before moving on to something new. [ This is something new so we are really working on it] While they do activities on one side of the room, Bobby and I work on school on the other side of the room. I start the discussions then we follow the lesson plan.

We break for lunch, then come back and finish our work. Bekah has quiet time for about 1-2 hours after lunch. I put together a box of things that she can only play with when she is being quiet. This has been such a life saver, she enjoys it and it allows me some down time as well. Sarah is still taking a good nap. She usually goes down around 10:30 and gets up around 12:00 After lunch she plays for a while then she goes for quiet time in her room while Bek has quiet time in the living room.

We are trying to get back to the gym, but not doing so well with that. Ideally we would go to the gym first thing in the morning, then come home and do school. We went yesterday, I was so soar from the zoo, then adding the gym to it, was not the best idea. My knee has really been bothering me, so we stayed home this morning, to let it heal a bit. We will be back at the gym hopefully on Monday!
