Bobby
I have been working on my lesson plans for King Tut. I think we are going to do a lot of reading with this study. We are going to use a Notebook I purchased to direct our reading. Bobby will need to fill out the notebook as we go along. We will also mummify a plastic doll like a barbie doll. We will be building a pyramid out of clay, and we will do some Egyptian cooking. This is an 8 week course then we will go see King Tut. This is an area Bobby is really interested in and I think he will just love the study.
For Math we are working on Long division, which is a struggle for Bobby, he has always struggled with multiplication and division. In Reading we are continuing in our reader, the theme this time is "Victories". All the stories in this unit have to do with a victory of some variety. Usually a personal victory. In Grammar we are working on verbs. In computer we are learning to type and also we are learning how to use basic computer programs, like word, excel, power point, ect...For spelling we are continuing with words and worksheets that my mother creates for us. He really likes these. There are puzzles and games using his words.
We will be starting Co-op the end of January. Bobby is taking: Crock Pot cooking; Destruction; volley ball; out door sports and games; and a K'nex bridge building class. He is really excited about all of his classes.
Bobby also continues to take science, and work in our church pantry.
Bekah
We are using mostly work books. She really loves working in workbooks. We are working on numbers, letters, early math, writing, a fun puzzle book, and reading. This seems like a lot but she loves these work books. She is reading simple books and really likes to read. She can write her name but we are starting to work on making her writing a bit more legible. We also use File folder games that I created. She loves these! We also paint, color and do some tactile activities. She has a play date here once a week and goes to a play date once a week. She loves the time with her best friend! She will also be going to CO-OP this spring. We visited in the fall and she loved it.
Sarah
Not to leave Sarah out. She colors, we read books, do some tactile activities, and does file folder games that are geared to her level of learning. Sarah will also participate in CO-OP. When we visited in the fall she really liked the interaction with the other kids her age.
Chris
Chris is doing really well in school. He is ready to start transistion to a regular school in January. Transition is where they start visiting his normal school for one class period then build from there. It is taken at his pace, if it is to much or he has problems they will back off. When he transitions completely, if he has problems they will bring him back to the special school and work through the problems. This is a really great program. I have been leary for a long time about transition, but I think now he is ready to begin that process. We are praying that these changes will go smoothly.
I will be teaching a building class for first and second graders at CO-OP and Roger is teaching a Destruction class for 6-8 grade boys. We are both very excited about joining the CO-OP, and about our responsibilities at CO-OP.
We have a busy semester planned but I am encouraged and believe it will be a wonderful semester of learning and fun!
